Description
Strapless corded bustier by Unsung Weavers, 2022. The garment features structured cups with internal metal boning and a fitted bodice shaped through vertical panel construction. The front panels are shaped with pleating, while the side sections incorporate corded gathering. A central front hook fastening defines the closure. The surface reveals irregular handwoven textures and raw-edged seams.
The bustier is constructed from a traditional handwoven textile historically used as a domestic covering or sheet, produced on a loom and known by various regional names in Greece, including hrami in Crete. The fabric combines cotton and wool, resulting in alternating tonal stripes in off-white hues. For the construction of the garment, the textile has been structurally manipulated through boning, pleating, and cording techniques.
The piece belongs to the Trans-Seasonal Series, introduced in 2022 following a commission for a limited exclusive production by a concept store in Tokyo. The series explores the transformation of traditional Greek textiles into contemporary garments designed for year-round wear. Unsung Weavers pieces are designed and made in Athens using materials sourced from Greece.
